Pre-CDL Training
Badges: 4 | Estimated time to complete: [X weeks] | Delivery: [Hybrid / In-person at CTE center]
Overview
Alaska moves on its roads, and the people who keep freight, equipment, and crews moving start with a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
The Pre-CDL certificate prepares you for that application from the ground up. Through this four-badge series you will assemble the identity and residency documentation the Alaska DMV requires, complete a Department of Transportation physical exam and earn your Medical Examiner's Certificate, pass the DMV knowledge test and hold your Commercial Learner's Permit through the mandatory waiting period, and finish federally required Entry-Level Driver Training.
You will close the series behind the wheel of a driving simulator at a Career and Technical Education center, and by mapping the funding, housing, and hiring pathways that turn a license into a career. Each badge stands on its own as evidence of a completed milestone; together they signify that you have satisfied every administrative, medical, and training prerequisite standing between you and a CDL Class A application.
This certificate is intended for Alaskans entering the transportation and heavy equipment trades, career changers, and current operators seeking to formalize their credentials.
Stackable Credential
Badges earned in the completion of this certificate can be applied toward related certificate, apprenticeship, or degree programs in transportation and heavy equipment operation. It is a building block that gives you a jump start to education and career success.
